project.overview

ILM Singapore was responsible for most of the opening train sequence in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

This sequence takes place 30 years before the main storyline, featuring a younger Indiana Jones and a de-aged version of the villain, Voller. We brought the characters back in time using ILM’s signature visual effects magic.

project.processBreakdown

For Voller, we performed the entire de-aging process in Nuke, using KeenTools and planar tracking to rejuvenate Mads Mikkelsen frame by frame. Indiana Jones required a different approach — combining ILM’s proprietary machine learning tools with 3D renders for a seamless integration. It was my first time working on this type of facial reconstruction, and I was blown away by the results, especially on some of the extreme close-ups we delivered.

I was also involved in look development for several hero shots of the train exterior, crafting the lighting transitions and environmental mood throughout the sequence. It was a challenging and rewarding project — one that pushed the boundaries of what's possible with modern VFX.
